Weekly Volunteer Positions
Line walkers - 2 volunteers per shift (home/away). Line walkers escort swimmers from the ready tent to the ready bench. They also assist the line captains in organizing swimmers before taking them to the ready bench.
Ready Bench - 2-4 volunteers per shift (home/away). At away meets, the ready bench people work together with volunteers from the opposing swim team(s) to line up and keep swimmers in the correct order. At home meets, ready bench works to keep swimmers in the correct lane and heat group, as they move chairs.
Ready Tent - 2-4 volunteers per shift (home/away). At home meets, the ready tent people work together with volunteers from the opposing swim team(s) to line up swimmers in the correct order at the ready tent. At away meets, ready tent organizes just the Flying Fish before heading to the host team’s ready bench.
Runner - 2 volunteers per shift (home). A runner collects time cards from the scribes and delivers them to the computer room. The runner will need to check in with the computer room before the meet begins.
Set up - 3 volunteers (home) on Friday evening and Saturday morning (home meets only). On Friday, volunteers meet at the pool at 6:45PM to get the pool ready for the meet. This involves moving chairs, setting up tents, setting up stanchions, putting out swim blocks, etc. On Saturday morning, the Set-Up volunteers meet at 6:45AM at the pool to finalize any remaining meet set-up, and to cover the Parking Lot attendant duties. Parking attendants must be at the pool at 6:30AM on Saturday morning to place all No Parking signs, direct traffic, and secure parking area near the FC Fitness Center. The parking attendants will remain on station until 8:00AM.
Take down – 5 volunteers (home) Volunteers are responsible for returning the pool to it’s pre-meet condition. This includes putting back chairs, tearing down tents, putting away swim blocks, stanchions, No Parking signs, etc.
Timer - 6-9 volunteers per shift (home/away). Timers take swimmers' times on stop watches and report them to the scribes. First and second shift timers are expected to attend a short timers and scribes meeting before the swim meet starts, typically around 8:15 a.m.
Scribe - 0-6 volunteers per shift (away). Scribes write down swimmers' times on cards after each heat and then turn these cards into the runner. First and second shift scribes are expected to attend a short timers and scribes meeting before the swim meet starts, typically around 8:15 a.m.
Timer/Scribe - 0-3 per shift (home/away). Timer/Scribes act as both a Timer AND a Scribe.
Computer room - 1-2 per shift (home/away). Computer room volunteers help record times from each heat and post times during the meet. 2nd shift lasts approximately 20 min after the conclusion of swimming.
Party Helper - 5-6 per event. Party helpers assist in set-up and take-down, as well as help in passing out food and assisting Team Parents. Party helpers arrive at the pool at 5 PM and stay until 8 PM
Tent Transport - 1 per meet (away). Tent transport loads our Ready Tent & mats on the preceding Thursday or Friday during practice. Volunteer will need to set the tent up by 7 AM on Saturday, and then break it down at the conclusion of the meet, and arrange for the delivery back to the pool.
Live Event/Heat Update - 1 per shift (away). Remains poolside to update what heat/event is in the water via the swimtopia app. Volunteer needs to have reliable cell service, a Swimtopia Pro subscription, and a portable charger for their phone.
Ribbons - 1 per meet (away). Ribbons Helper affixes labels to placement ribbons. Check in with computer room at event 41, (work usually begins about event 55). Labels are printed throughout the meet, and computer room will let you know if they are ready, or when to report back. This shift lasts approximately 20 min past the conclusion of swimming. Labeled ribbons will need to be delivered to one of our team parents for filing.
